Inspiring as they are, they also remind us of another ‘Olympic’ discipline, Olympic games poster design. Not that their creators win any medals for designing them, but true works of art and design, typography and colour balance, these posters stand the test of time like no other expression of graphic design and visual communications.
In fact, it’s very interesting to observe how much of earlier Olympian graphology from the 1920’s to 1980’s appears so contemporary in the digital age of the XXI century…. or is it just me that thinks so?
Think infrographics, web 2.0, dribble or IOS7 for instance. Where does the inspiration come from? According to Jonathan Yve, Apple’s Senior VP of Design “there’s an enduring and profound beauty in simplicity”.
